AEP Considers NAEP Affiliation Agreement – 2010

We have before us an important and timely issue - to consider renewing the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) Affiliation Agreement by December this year.

Some history - AEP entered into an Affiliation Agreement with NAEP in January 2005 and became one of its 19 current affiliated chapters. At that time, AEP amended its By-Laws to recognize its affiliation with NAEP.

What is the NAEP Affiliation Agreement about? What does it mean for me as an AEP member? What does it cost me? What benefits do I get with AEP affiliating with NAEP? These questions are answered in the article written by Roger Turner, NAEP Liaison and provided here (AEP Considers NAEP Affiliation Agreement - 2010). A new Affiliation Agreement has been adopted by the NAEP Board and is provided here (NAEP Chapter Affiliation Agreement). NAEP also prepared a Spirit of the Affiliation Agreement paper to better provide an understanding of the Affiliation Agreement. The Spirit Paper is provided here (Spirit Paper). Finally a brief paper was developed to help answer two questions, what does
the Affiliation Agreement cost each member and what are the benefits received? (Final Marketing Paper).

A small team of AEP members is meeting in June with each chapter Board to explain the Affiliation Agreement, answer questions and receive comments. The Chapter Boards will contact each AEP member with the same information presented here and work to answer questions from members. Other efforts to communicate this message include Gene Talmadge, AEP President E- Blasts to members in June and July and September and his President message in the Environmental Monitor.

We are looking forward to the next four months to have an active dialogue with AEP members on the Affiliation Agreement. The AEP Board, chapter Boards and individual members will be discussing and debating the Affiliation Agreement over the next four months.

This agreement requires a vote by the AEP membership to determine whether or not AEP should continue its affiliation with NAEP. A vote of the membership will occur in the late September 2010 timeframe using a ballot process. The AEP Board of Directors will make the final decision, based on the results of the voting members and the desires of respective chapters at their November 2010 meeting. The final vote will be reported to the AEP membership.

It is very important that each member be active in this process and vote in September on this very important agreement and relationship with the NAEP. If there are questions please sent them to Lynne Bynder at califaep@gmail.com.
